How it works

Complete the job in three clear steps

  1. Add one JPG, PNG, WebP, or BMP image to the local workspace.
  2. Choose the relevant settings and create an accessible color-and-contrast report.
  3. Review the local result, then copy or download it before leaving the page.

Important

Check the result before relying on it

Keep an untouched copy of important source files. Browser processing depends on available device memory, and you should inspect every downloaded result before deleting the original.

Practical details

What this Lucaden tool does

Extract a representative image palette and calculate black and white text contrast, WCAG AA/AAA status, and a readable foreground for every swatch.

WCAG ratios apply to the sampled solid color, not to text placed over a detailed image. Test actual layouts, font sizes, states, and gradients separately.

Lucaden supplies the focused workflow, resource limits, privacy checks, and upstream attribution.

Included capabilities

  • Black and white contrast ratios
  • WCAG AA and AAA labels
  • Suggested foreground per swatch
  • Downloadable JSON report

Useful for

  • Choose readable text overlays
  • Audit palette candidates
  • Prepare accessible theme tokens
  • Compare image-derived backgrounds

Questions

About this tool

Does Lucaden upload my images?

No. The pinned open-source runtime processes temporary image data in this browser, and this tool has no upload step.

What should I verify?

WCAG ratios apply to the sampled solid color, not to text placed over a detailed image. Test actual layouts, font sizes, states, and gradients separately.

Which open-source project powers this tool?

The implementation uses Color Thief (MIT runtime 3.5.0). Upstream projects retain their original names, copyrights, and licenses.
