How it works

Complete the job in three clear steps

  1. Choose one PDF from your device.
  2. Set the page and output options, then create an image-based grayscale PDF.
  3. Inspect the downloaded result before replacing or deleting the original document.

Important

Check the result before relying on it

Keep an untouched copy of important source files. Browser processing depends on available device memory, and you should inspect every downloaded result before deleting the original.

Practical details

What this Lucaden tool does

PDF.js renders each page, a canvas converts the pixels to grayscale, and pdf-lib rebuilds the document. This reliably changes visible color but rasterizes text and vector content, so searchable text and links are not preserved.

The document stays in browser memory during processing. Lucaden creates a new output file and never modifies the source on your device.

Questions

About this tool

Will text stay selectable?

No. This method rebuilds each page as an image. Keep the original when selectable text or accessibility is important.

Does grayscale always reduce file size?

No. Rasterization can make some vector PDFs larger.
