Private raster-to-vector workspace

Image to SVG Vectorizer

Convert a PNG, JPG, WebP, or BMP raster image into editable scalable SVG paths on this device.

Free to use Your source image and generated SVG stay in this browser. The VTracer WebAssembly engine is bundled with Lucaden and runs in a local worker.

How it works

Complete the job in three clear steps

  1. Choose a PNG, JPG, WebP, or BMP image from this device.
  2. Select color or black-and-white tracing, curve style, detail, and output dimensions.
  3. Run VTracer locally, compare the raster and vector previews, then download the optimized SVG.

Important

Check the result before relying on it

Keep an untouched copy of important source files. Browser processing depends on available device memory, and you should inspect every downloaded result before deleting the original.

Practical details

What this Lucaden tool does

Convert a PNG, JPG, WebP, or BMP raster image into editable scalable SVG paths on this device.

This is genuine raster tracing: VTracer clusters the pixels, follows shape boundaries, fits pixel, polygon, or spline paths, and writes SVG geometry. SVGO then removes redundant markup without converting the paths back to pixels.

The vector result can scale without bitmap pixelation, but tracing does not reconstruct original fonts, layers, or designer-authored shapes. Complex photos may be better kept as optimized AVIF, WebP, or JPEG files.

Included capabilities

  • Real SVG path tracing
  • Color and monochrome modes
  • Spline, polygon, and pixel geometry
  • Web Worker processing
  • Local SVGO optimization

Useful for

  • Vectorize a logo draft
  • Trace flat illustrations
  • Convert icons to paths
  • Prepare scalable design assets

Questions

About this tool

Does this embed the original bitmap inside an SVG wrapper?

No. VTracer groups colors and fits real SVG path geometry. Lucaden's output test rejects files without vector paths and the result contains no embedded source image.

Which images vectorize well?

Logos, icons, diagrams, signatures, line art, flat illustrations, and high-contrast shapes work best. Photographs can create many paths, larger files, and simplified colors, so inspect the result closely.

Is Potrace bundled?

No. The common Node Potrace package is GPL-2.0 and depends on Jimp. Lucaden instead uses the permissively licensed VTracer engine, which supports both color and black-and-white path tracing in WebAssembly.

Open-source foundations

Built transparently

Lucaden documents its standards sources, architectural references, and permissive runtime dependencies while keeping this workspace consistent with the Lucaden interface.
