How it works

Complete the job in three clear steps

  1. Choose one static PNG image from this device.
  2. Adjust the available codec settings and create a losslessly optimized PNG with OxiPNG via @jsquash/oxipng 2.3.0.
  3. Compare the dimensions and file sizes, inspect the full result, then download it.

Important

Check the result before relying on it

Keep an untouched copy of important source files. Browser processing depends on available device memory, and you should inspect every downloaded result before deleting the original.

Practical details

What this Lucaden tool does

Recompress a PNG without changing its decoded pixels using the OxiPNG WebAssembly optimizer and selectable effort.

Lossless optimization cannot guarantee a smaller file when the source is already efficient. Animated PNG behavior is not claimed; verify animation separately before replacing an APNG.

Lucaden adds a focused workflow, conservative memory limits, honest size reporting, local previews, and exact dependency attribution.

Included capabilities

  • Pixel-preserving PNG optimization
  • OxiPNG effort levels 1–6
  • Alpha-channel optimization
  • Exact source dimensions

Useful for

  • Shrink a website PNG
  • Optimize a transparent logo
  • Reduce screenshot weight
  • Prepare a lossless archive copy

Questions

About this tool

Does Lucaden upload the image?

No. Browser APIs decode the selected pixels and the pinned jSquash WebAssembly codec runs locally.

What should I verify?

Lossless optimization cannot guarantee a smaller file when the source is already efficient. Animated PNG behavior is not claimed; verify animation separately before replacing an APNG.

Which open-source engine is used?

OxiPNG via @jsquash/oxipng 2.3.0 is provided through a version-pinned jSquash package derived from the Squoosh codec work. jSquash remains Apache-2.0 and retains its upstream attribution.
