What the format is
The regression lab pairs baseline and candidate XML by filename or unique message/report identifier, then compares an order-preserving canonical view. Declared volatile paths are excluded visibly; namespaces, financial totals, identifiers, structure, and values remain significant.
Who uses it
Payment-platform engineers, ERP teams, bank-connectivity testers, quality assurance, and release managers maintaining ISO 20022 golden files.
Common failure modes
- More than one candidate has the same pairing key
- A namespace or element order changed
- A generated timestamp creates harmless noise
- Counts or currency totals changed unexpectedly
Worked example
Two pain.001 files share filename golden-payment.xml. CreDtTm is ignored by the project, while a EUR total change from 1,250.00 to 1,275.00 remains a failing aggregate difference in HTML, JSON, CSV, and JUnit output.
