How it works

Complete the job in three clear steps

  1. Choose one text-based PDF from your device.
  2. Set the page and output options, then create page-separated plain text.
  3. Inspect the downloaded result before replacing or deleting the original document.

Important

Check the result before relying on it

Keep an untouched copy of important source files. Browser processing depends on available device memory, and you should inspect every downloaded result before deleting the original.

Practical details

What this Lucaden tool does

PDF.js reads positioned text items and reconstructs a practical plain-text stream for each page. Scanned image-only documents need OCR instead because they contain no selectable text layer.

The document stays in browser memory during processing. Lucaden creates a new output file and never modifies the source on your device.

Questions

About this tool

Why is a scanned PDF blank?

A scan may contain only images. Convert pages to images and run OCR to recognize the text.

Will tables keep their layout?

Plain text cannot preserve every table and multi-column position, so complex layouts need review.
