How it works

Complete the job in three clear steps

  1. Add a message, secret key, and hash algorithm to the local workspace.
  2. Choose the available options and create hexadecimal and Base64 HMAC values.
  3. Review, copy, or download the result before leaving the page.

Important

Check the result before relying on it

Use these utilities for development, learning, and local checks. Do not treat a browser tool as a replacement for audited identity systems, password managers, production key management, or server-side authentication controls.

Practical details

What this Lucaden tool does

The browser Web Crypto API imports the secret as an HMAC key and signs the message with the selected SHA-2 algorithm. Both values remain in local page state.

The transformation happens in browser memory and produces a new result without changing the source on your device.

Included capabilities

  • HMAC SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512
  • HEX and Base64 output
  • UTF-8 input
  • Web Crypto implementation

Useful for

  • Test webhook signatures
  • Reproduce API examples
  • Validate development fixtures
  • Learn message authentication

Questions

About this tool

Is HMAC the same as a plain hash?

No. HMAC combines a secret key with a hash construction to authenticate a message.

Should I paste a production secret?

Avoid exposing live credentials unnecessarily. Use temporary test keys whenever possible.
